KUCHING: Kumpulan Ber-lima (SPDP 5) akan meletak-kan calon di kerusi Parlimen Mas Gading untuk bertanding pada Pilihan Raya Umum Ke-13 (PRU13) akan datang.

Jurucakapnya, Datuk Peter Nansian Ngusie memberitahu, mereka berhak meletakkan calon di kerusi itu meman- dangkan mereka tidak lagi ber-ada dalam Parti Demokratik Progresif Sarawak (SPDP), tetapi terpulang kepada pucuk pimpinan BN untuk menerima atau sebaliknya.

“Semua orang termasuk SPDP boleh meletakkan calon di mana-mana kerusi tetapi selaku calon BN, kita tahu hanya pucuk kepimpinan BN yang boleh memutuskan siapa akan bertanding berdasarkan pe- nilaian mereka terhadap calon mampu menang, sekali gus apa yang terbaik untuk BN.

“SPDP mempunyai hak untuk memilih calon mereka sen-diri dan seperti itu juga, kita turut mempunyai hak untuk meletakkan calon… kita biarkan pucuk pimpinan BN untuk menentukan dan keputusan itu perlu diterima oleh semua orang,” katanya menerusi khidmat pesanan ringkas (SMS), semalam.

Nansian, yang juga Menteri Muda Pembangunan Industri dan Ahli Dewan Undangan Ne-geri (ADUN) Tasik Biru memberitahu, kumpulan tersebut juga tidak mempunyai sebarang bantahan jika SPDP meletakkan calon kerana ia terpulang ke-pada pucuk kepimpinan untuk membuat keputusan.

“Kenapa perlu kecoh? Ada-kah Presiden SPDP (Tan Sri William Mawan) fikir kedudukannya sangat baik dan boleh membanggakan diri di depan semua orang termasuk BN dan wakil BN?

“Kita teruskan berkhidmat sebaik mungkin kepada rakyat yang mengundi kita, jalankan tanggungjawab sebagai wakil rakyat BN daripada berbuat bising,” katanya.

Kerusi Parlimen Mas Gading menimbulkan kepeningan untuk SPDP khasnya apabila penyandangnya, Datuk Dr Tiki Lafe berulang kali mengatakan bahawa beliau akan memper-tahankan kerusi itu.

Masalah lain dihadapi SPDP ialah memastikan bahawa parti itu menamakan calon sendiri yang boleh diterima ramai di kawasan tersebut.

SPDP mengenal pasti lima calon berpotensi — Rayan Narong, Nogeh Anthony, Datu Ik Pahon Joyik dan adik ber-adik Wiliam Jinep dan Henry Harry Jinep untuk mempertahankan kerusi itu terutamanya bagi BN pada PRU13 nanti.

Menurut perjanjian 1996, jika ADUN kawasan itu datang daripada masyarakat Singai, maka Ahli Parlimennya hen-daklah dari kumpulan Jagoi-Bratak.

Jadi untuk menghormati perjanjian itu, suka atau tidak, SPDP terpaksa mencalonkan masyarakat Jagoi kerana Nansian mewakili masyarakat Singai dan situasi inilah yang dipercayai memberikan masa yang paling sukar kepada kepimpinan parti.

Masalah pertama bermula apabila Dr Tiki bersama-sama dengan tiga yang lain bertindak meninggalkan SPDP tahun lepas berikutan Datuk Sylves-ter Entri dilucutkan daripada jawatan Setiausaha Agung pada tahun yang sama.

Ahli lain dalam SPDP 5 ialah Rosey Yunus dan Paulus Palu Gumbang yang masing-masing merupakan wakil rakyat Bekenu dan Batu Danau.-BP-

SPR serah borang pendaftaran pengundi kepada Sekutu BN

SIBU: Barisan Nasional (BN) perlu bersedia dengan perubahan senario politik semasa jika ingin kekal sebagai pucuk pimpinan negara.

Presiden Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) Tan Sri Dr James Jemut Masing (gambar) berkata, BN kini menghadapi musuh politik yang disifatkan sangat terancang, fokus dan berazam.

“Pakatan Rakyat menguasai dua buah negeri paling maju di negara iaitu Pulau Pinang dan Selangor. Ini bermakna, pembangkang kini mempunyai sumber yang diperlukan untuk melawan BN,” jelasnya pada Majlis Malam Khas PRS Ketujuh, pada 22 Oktober lalu.

Ahli Dewan Undangan Negeri (ADUN) Baleh itu berkata, BN perlu menangani setiap segmen masyarakat yang berbeza dengan lebih berhati-hati.

“Ia adalah satu kesilapan jika kita menganggap bahawa semua rakyat Malaysia mahu perkara yang sama. Kita tidak boleh menganggap keperluan di luar bandar dan bandar serupa sahaja di bawah satu permintaan.

“Kita juga tidak boleh menakut-nakutkan rakyat untuk menyokong kita dengan menafikan peruntukan geran Projek Kecil Luar Bandar (MRP) jika mereka enggan mematuhi permintaan kita,” ujar beliau.

Katanya lagi, landskap politik masa kini bukan sekadar pengagihan peruntukan MRP kepada rakyat, malah ia sesuatu yang di luar jangkaan dalam berkhidmat demi rakyat.

“Ramai calon dan parti politik yang gagal bertindak untuk menepati dan memenuhi permintaan rakyat di kawasan konsintuensi masing-masing.

“Jika ia tidak diberi keutamaan, maka banyak lagi yang akan kecundang kerana tidak berubah mengikut arus perubahan zaman dan landskap politik,” jelas Masing.

Dalam perkembangan lain, Masing meluahkan keyakinannya untuk mengekalkan kemenangan enam kerusi Parlimen PRS pada Pilihan Raya Umum (PRU) Ke-13 akan datang.

Pada majlis sama, Masing menerima borang keahlian baru PRS di DUN Tamin berjumlah 1,239 orang yang disampaikan oleh Timbalan Presiden PRS, Datuk Joseph Entulu Belaun.

Selain itu, Masing turut menerima borang pendaftaran pengundi di DUN Tamin berjumlah 681 orang yang disampaikan oleh wakil Suruhanjaya Pilihan Raya (SPR), Matthew Lenggang.

Hadir sama ialah Setiausaha Agung Datuk Wilfred Rata Nissom, Naib Presiden Datuk Billy Abit Joo, Datuk John Sikie Tayai, Datuk Joseph Salang Gandum dan Joseph Mauh Ikeh, Ketua Pergerakan Pemuda Datuk Mong Dagang.

Ketua Pergerakan Wanita Senator Doris Sophia Brodie, Timbalan Bendahari Agung Malcom Mussen Lamoh, Ketua Penerangan Wilson Nyabong Ijang, Timbalan Setiausaha Agung Snowdan Lawan juga hadir.

LAGI SEKUTU BN DILANDA KRISIS

KUALA LUMPUR : Krisis berterusan yang melanda sekutu rejim BN di semenanjung kini menyeberangi Laut Cina Selatan apabila satu lagi sekutunya di Sarawak turut menerima nasib yang sama.

Terbaru, Parti Progresif Demokratik Sarawak (SPDP) menyaksikan perpecahan dalaman apabila Perhimpunan Agung Tiga Tahun Sekali (TGA) parti itu pada 28 Disember ini menyaksikan pertembungan hampir di semua peringkat termasuk jawatan Timbalan Presiden dengan drama ugutan, ancam keselamatan calon bertanding dan ‘Senarai calon pilihan Presiden’ mewarnai pertandingan itu.

Timbalan Ketua Pemuda SPDP, Philip Ngo, mendakwa menerima sejumlah khidmat pesanan ringkas (SMS) dan panggilan telefon yang mengancam keselamatan dirinya sejak beliau mengishtiharkan akan bertanding jawatan Timbalan Presiden.

Malah Philip turut didesak oleh Sembilan bahagian parti itu agar menarik diri bagi memberi kemenangan percuma kepada penyandang sejak tahun 2003, Peter Nyarok Entrie.

“Sejak diketahui akan mencabar kedudukan Timbalan Presiden, saya banyak menerima panggilan dan SMS, ada yang memberi galakan dan ada yang berbaur ancaman.

“Bagaimanapun, saya tidak akan menarik diri semata-mata kerana ancaman yang diterima. Saya kekal dengan pendirian, komited dan fokus dalam tindakan yang dilakukan,” katanya yang tidak teraga-agak membuat laporan polis.

Beliau bagaimanapun enggan mendedahkan ‘pihak’ yang dimaksudkannya, sama ada daripada ahli di peringkat bawahan atau atasan dalam parti.

Philip, 45, seorang ahli perniagaan dan juga ahli jawatankuasa eksekutif Pergerakan Pemuda Barisan Nasional (BN) Pusat akan mencabar Nyarok, 67, dalam TGA pada 28 Disember ini.

Walaupun Presiden parti itu, William Mawan Ikom sejak Julai lalu merayu agar calon-calon tertentu menarik diri bagi mengelakan perpecahan dalam parti yang baru berusia tujuh tahun itu, namun ia gagal mengekang nafsu ahli SPDP daripada merebut jawatan.

Turut menyaksikan pertembungan ialah bagi jawatan Naib Presiden yang menyaksikan empat calon bagi merebut tiga kekosongan manakala jawatan Majlis Tertinggi yang hanya memerlukan 14 orang direbut oleh 35 calon.

Tertekan dengan masalah itu, Mawan menerusi satu mesyuarat parti baru-baru ini mencadangkan senarai nama untuk mengisi jawatan-jawatan utama dalam badan induk parti itu.

Ia dikenali sebagai ‘Senarai Presiden’

Terdahulu, Ketua Pergerakan Pemuda SPDP, Tiong King Sing turut disebut-sebut untuk bertanding jawatan itu.

Tiong ialah antara nama yang terlibat dalam skandal Zon Bebas Pelabuhan Kelang (PKFZ).

SPDP ditubuhkan pada tahun 2002 selepas krisis kepimpinan dalam Parti Kebangsaan Sarawak (SNAP).

Beberapa pemimpin SNAP yang menubuhkan SPDP selepas itu menyertai BN manakala SNAP menjadi pembangkang walaupun sebelum itu SNAP merupakan salah satu sekutu rejim BN di Sarawak.

Kidurong Assemblyman Chiew Chin Sing could not understand Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) or Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) president on Barisan Nasional (BN) argument on the need to change representation to suits the needs of electorate.

“I was contesting against BN, not Sarawak United People Party (SUPP), SPDP or PRS. I repeat it was BN,” Chiew said.

Chiew said no matter whatever party they sent, it will still be BN… and people are voting DAP because they reject BN policy and not any particular party.

“They are voting DAP for what DAP stand for. It is not personal glory, DAP is for the people. I never contest against SUPP logo, they put Mawan or Masing themselves here, they will also be using the same logo…The BN logo,” he said.

Chiew also welcome Mawan or Masing to contest in Kidurong, given if they are interested and start listening to what the Rakyat is unhappy about.

“They are not unhappy against SUPP, they are not happy over the BN government policy. People are fed up of abuse of power and corruption. The local authorities at times are being run like private company and have no people representation. The people want to be part of the decision making body, especially on issues that affect their livelihood,” he said.

On SPDP supremo, Datuk Seri Tiong King Sing ability to crush DAP apart in Bintulu, Chiew said there are three state seats in that area, and Kidurong voters are mainly urban population.

“The Kidurong people see LNG tankers come and go, but did the money goes too?” he quipped.

SPDP TGA is coming up soon - before the end of 2009. Already there are many speculation on the new line-up. One of which is that of the Deputy President Position - currently held by YB Nyarok. Rumours failed to go away that Bintulu MP Dato Seri Tiong is challenging the position.

Dato Seri Tiong Position in SPDP

He is the Treasurer General and Youth Leader of SPDP and Member of Parliament for Bintulu. At Parliament, he is the BN Back Bencher Chairman. This mean the Bintulu MP is an important person in SPDP and also a well placed politician in BN organization.

These position gives him great power which he can wield to further his political position within SPDP and BN in general.

Dato Seri Tiong Company and in his person is now under investigation by at least 30 MACC investigators after an audit report of PKFZ is made public. More evidence is needed to determine the nature of any wrong doing.

What is more important now is some BN MP are asking for Bintulu MP resignation not withstanding the investigation outcome. Meaning - the MPs has found him unacceptable as peer and that he is gulty ( without proof).

Why attack MCA?

Dato Seri retaliation attack on MCA President is at best furtile. The whole MCA membership will back their President who has an entirely different political objective and support from Tiong. The attack only erode MCA support for Tiong which he will need to survive this investigation on his business.

What Effect has this case in SPDP

Big time - i must say. Most people believed that Dato Seri Tiong is the main financier of SPDP. Without his money, SPDP may find the going difficult to finance its activities and election campaign.

For Datuk Nyarok - maybe this will remind SPDP members that they need to vote a leader without legal liabilities hanging over his head.

The investigation may lead to Tiong eventually removal as Member of Parliament - depending on the outcome. That being so, SPDP would be presented with a golden opportunity to clean its house and remain a Dayak Party.

Dayak Party

When SPDP / PRS are both Dayak party - it may be an opportunity for the Dayak political leadership to unite. This leadershipunity maybe an opportunity for uncommitted political Dayakto make the move to be united in one party.

Conclusion

All of these are speculation - relying on “IFs”.It is however possible as the ballis now on the roll. It is matter to the Dayak larger community to be patient and look at the possibilities that can be drawn from this situation. Can it be turn into something constructive at the expense of Dato Seri Tiong. We can just hope.

Dayakbaru - politics is always fluid. Do not despair. We are people with precise political cause. We can wait and look for opportunities to push our agenda forward.

The best time for PRS and SPDP merger

The best time for these two Dayak-based parties (though multiracial) to merge into one entity is now. Both William Mawan and Dr James Masing should bury all past suspicions, if any, and all unsavoury remarks/actions purportedly initiated by SPDP during PRS crises and thereafter, SPDP’s alledged support to Gabriel Adit against PRS’s Alexander Vincent in the last Sarawak State Election should be thrown into the backburner.

William is already into the mending ties mode. He said that he is even willing to step aside to give way for a new President of the merged Party. Additionally, SPDP is gearing to assist PRS to recapture Ngemah from Adit. The SPDP President said that actions should be initiated rather than rhetorics to demonstrate genuineness and sincerity.

As for PRS, it is now a clearly settled Party, after the bitter battle between the feuding factions that dragged up to nearly two years.

More importantly, the party seemed to carry on without any “tangibles” towkays behind. The Dayak-based Party, is seen for the first time, not obligated or controlled by defacto wealthy individual or family with self interests. In reality, this cannot be said in the case of SPDP. This is where the big contention is.

PRS is postponing its TDC, slated for 3rd December this year, to see how SPDP’s TGA is unfolding. SPDP’s TGA is scheduled to be held on the 20th Nov this year. Circles in PRS is keen to watch who will be the new officebearers. Will the “defacto” financer be in a top flight or not? Already, an individual there is holding an unprecedented 3 posts simultaneously.

PRS is wary of this situation. They do not want scenarios repetitive of the SNAP, PBDS days, allowing outside financiers to control the parties and, their own bitter experiences just a fewmonths ago. Hence, this is the major consideration for PRS to woo and marry SPDP. PRS is short of telling SPDP ” get rid of your defacto leader” and we will merge!

Concerns loom over possible merger

Talks of a merger between two Dayak-based parties Sarawak Progressive Democratic Party (SPDP) and Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) remain as talks only as the two sides have not met officially since the proposal was made in 2005.

"The talks of merger are still on, but we have not met," admitted William Mawan SPDP president after a supreme council meeting yesterday.

"Even though the merger remains illusive, we have other ways of strengthening one another on the ground. We must be seen together first and demonstrate we work to help one another," he said.

Asked if there were any obstacles, Mawan said: "There are no obstacles and as far as I am concerned, I am prepared to step aside in order to allow some one to head the new entity."

"We are very committed to the idea of a merger," he said, adding that there was no time frame for it to be realised.

The merger talks between the two was said to have been proposed by Chief Minster Abdul Taib Mahmud in 2005 in order to strengthen the two parties especially following the de-registration of Snap and PBDS in 2002 and 2004 respectively.

Both SPDP and PRS were born out of the demise of the two parties. For SPDP, it was registered in November 2002 and PRS was registered in Oct 21, 2004, the day when PBDS' registration was revoked.

Sources close to Taib said that the chief minister did not want to be seen as having a hand in the de-registration of the two-Dayak based parties.

Chinese leaders call for caution

But when the idea of a merger was proposed to strengthen 'Dayak unity', Chinese leaders of the two parties called for caution, because any move to merge must be done with great care.

Tiong King Sing, SPDP treasurer general, who was very much against the merger, was reported to have said: "There is no point to merge, if we have to quarrel over who should be the president and who should hold important posts."

"There is no point to merge if at the end of the day, both sides get embroiled in the fight for top posts. If this happens why should we rock the boat?" he asked.

Sng Chee Hua, who was then PRS deputy president, was also reported to be against the merger, saying that some had to make sacrifices if the merger went through.

"No doubt, there will be a bigger room, a bigger boat, but the question is who will be its captain," said Sng.

Now Sng is no longer with PRS and yet PRS is hesitant about the merger, although publicly it is for it.

According to a PRS supreme council member, PRS does not want Tiong to be in the new entity.

"PRS will closely watch SPDP's triennial delegates conference to be held in November this year and the role Tiong is going to play in the party.

"Because of this, PRS' own conference has to be delayed by a year," he said, adding that the decision to merge or not would be known by then. malaysiakini

James,Mawan…’ Why don’t you both just join hands and merge back to just ONE PARTY..? I need BN to be BN3 and not BN4 to fight the ever increasing threat of the opposition against my rule? What are you waiting for and I dont want people to blame me for the breakup of SNAP.? You see SNAP your father and grandfather are blaming me which sees the registration of PRS,SPDP and so the demise of PBDS. Thats my call and act on it.”

So much has happened ever since and PRS was also embroiled in a crisis which was eventually solved this year as the opposition made inroads in Parliament and 308 was the time ROS under instructions had no choice but to recognise James as the legitimate President instead of Larry Sng.

Both factions did make efforts to realise the dream of a “merger’ but more so it was used to camouflage or more so in REALITY USE MERGER to get rid of the other faction. I was also part of the merger team on one side and underneath all that talks was another agenda. Heaven help me if there was not another.Since then a total of 8 divisions plus many of Larry’s Supreme Council has joined PKR . (In other words Jump ship when they losts or is there another reason..??)

What would you do if you were CM..? Don’t you think that he has enough worries to just get himself dirtyto solve this problem? Mawan and James knows who is the boss and one of them needs to eventually step back and give way. Who is going to? Two senior political analysts said very bluntly,” Maybe they are waiting for the Good Lord to call Taib back to his side.” while another said,”This is politics and why should both leaders bow to Taib’s requests.”

PRU SARAWAK : SEKUTU BN BERGABUNG, PRESIDEN ENGGAN BERUNDUR

Persidangan tiga-tahunan Parti Demokratik Progresif Sarawak (SPDP) yang akan dijadual berlangsung dari 20-22 November tahun ini dijangka tidak menghadapi pertandingan bagi jawatan utama, kata presidennya Datuk Seri William Mawan.

Mawan, yang juga Menteri Pembangunan Sosial dan Urbanisasi Negeri, berkata tidak ada sebab untuk beliau berundur dalam entiti sekarang, ketika parti itu sedang berunding untuk bergabung dengan Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), sebuah lagi parti komponen Barisan Nasional (BN).

"Buat masa ini saya belum memikirkan soal berundur dan saya tidak menjangka sebarang pertandingan bagi jawatan itu. Saya harap tidak," kata beliau kepada pemberita selepas mempengerusikan mesyuarat majlis tertinggi SPDP di sini, Sabtu.

Beliau berkata Perdana Menteri Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, yang juga pengerusi BN, dijangka merasmikan persidangan tiga tahunan itu.

Mengenai cadangan gabungan, Mawan berkata, kedua-dua parti amat komited ke arah itu dan beliau sedia berkorban demi kepentingan rakyat dengan mengundurkan diri bila keadaan memerlukan.

Sebagai sebahagian daripada usaha memperkukuhkan lagi BN, Mawan berkata mesyuarat hari ini membincangkan persiapan untuk mempertingkatkan lagi kempen menambah keanggotaan parti memandangkan senario politik sekarang dalam mana pilihan raya negeri akan berlangsung tidak lama lagi.- BERNAMA
