Tawau: Umno will not guarantee the Barisan Nasional (BN) victory in areas where the majority of voters are Bumiputera in the coming 13th General Election if the seats are not given to the party to contest.
Umno Tawau Chief, Datuk Tawfiq Abu Bakar Titingan, said the party here would be lobbying all out for the Tawau parliamentary seat that was won by former BN component party, Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), to be given to Umno.
"This is because the majority of the voters in Tawau are Bumiputera," he said when officiating at the Umno clustered branch general meeting, here, Monday.
The Tawau parliamentary constituency at the moment has about 42,000 registered voters.
Tawfiq, who is also Finance Assistant Minister, meanwhile urged all Umno branch leaders here to be proactive in identifying and registering qualified youths as voters.
He said Tawau Umno currently has 173 branches, of which 170 are qualified to conduct general meetings.
He said there are another 18 new branches with 1,010 members that are waiting for approval by the central office.
