Kota Kinabalu: A landing gear malfunction caused a MASwings aircraft bound for Sibu, Sarawak to make an emergency landing at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA) here Monday morning.
The ATR aircraft ferrying 23 passengers and four crew turned around to make the landing just several minutes after it had taken off.
Fire and Rescue Department liaison officer, Mat Nor Amit, said the department received a distress call at 8.28am and deployed 28 personnel to KKIA Terminal 1.
He said two ambulances were also on standby at the runway.
"The airport personnel informed the department about the landing gear doors of the aircraft that were not fully closed after the take-off.
Fortunately, the aircraft managed to land safely around 9am," said Mat Nor, adding no one was hurt.
The passengers later boarded a standby MASwings ATR aircraft and departed for Sibu at 10.15am.
