Kota Kinabalu: PAS Sabah hailed the courageous act of State Youth and Sport Minister Datuk Peter Pang En Yin in exposing that Yayasan Sabah defaulters include accomplished individuals and said Peter should name and shame them in the local media.
Its Deputy Commissioner Hamzah Abdullah said this in response to remarks by Peter Pang En Yin, a member of the Yayasan Sabah (YS) Board of Trustees-cum-Minister of Youth and Sports.
"PAS Sabah had all along believed that study loans from the revenue earned by YS were being abused by State political leaders in that those who were awarded come from students whose parents are either Umno or other BN component parties.
"In the context of government officers, most of them were either related or close ally of the State leaders," he said in a statement.
He said the awards were no longer based on merits and requirements but by way of political connections.
"This is disgusting and disturbing as it deprived the real needy students who are financially incapable."
The defaulters are the real traitors and deserve condemnation by taxpayers, he added.
"PAS Sabah demanded stiffer action by YS including filing a suit to institute bankruptcy proceedings against government officials whose income reached four digit stage and incurring loans amounting to RM30,000," he said.
