KOTA KINABALU: Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) adviser Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim expects the 13th General Election to be held in July this year.
“I urge all PKR leaders in Sabah to work hard and update the election machinery to ensure we are ready for the election,” he said at a media conference after meeting Sabahan PKR leaders at its head office in Jalan Bundusan, Penampang.
“With all the religion issues, sex video, my court case and even my daughter Nurul Izzah was threatened it is a clear massage that the election is coming very soon,” he said.
Anwar, who had just returned from his visit to Pitas, Kota Marudu and Kota Belud, said there is a new spirit they feel among the native people who are facing land problems.
He said it is the responsibility of PKR under Pakatan Rakyat (PR) to fight for the people’s right to take back their land from the government.
Anwar said the 38 per cent increase in the natives’ votes for the opposition in the recent Sarawak state election was a clear sign of a swing in voting trend.
Asked about the discussion between PKR Sabah and Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP), he said he is hoping the negotiation will go smoothly, as long as the decision does not violate the PKR constitution.
“It is not politics of expediency, but politics based on principles and policies,” he said.
