BN Sarawak Terkilan - Najib Hanya Puji BN Sabah

Minister believes like Sabah, state too ensures coalition remains at helm of country’s administration

KUCHING: Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) deputy president Datuk Amar Abang Johari Tun Openg believes Sarawak is also a ‘fixed deposit’ for Barisan Nasional (BN) like what Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak has termed Sabah.

“Both Sabah and Sarawak are BN’s fixed deposit. HE (NAJIB) HAS ADMITTED THAT SARAWAK IS A STRONG BN STATE AND I’M SURE HE WILL EXPRESS THE SAME VIEW WHEN HE COMES TO SARAWAK LATER,” Johari told journalists after launching the 2009 Landscape Design Competition at Wisma Sultan Tengah in Petra Jaya here yesterday.

On Monday, Najib said Sabah remains as the ‘fixed deposit’ for BN and this was to ensure that BN would continue to be at the helm of the country’s administration.

“At a gathering here a year ago, I described Sabah as the fixed deposit for the BN. Today I am here to see if the value of that deposit has remained or has gone down.

“I am very happy to note that Sabah is still the fixed deposit for the BN,” Najib had said at a dinner with Sabah BN leaders.

Johari pointed out that what mattered most was Sarawak fostered closer rapport with the federal government although it had less ministerial posts compared to Sabah.

He said the federal government had been supportive of major development projects in the state and this meant a lot to the people here.

“What is important is that we have very good relationship with the federal leadership. It is not a question of ministerial posts only. We also have to look at the financial support given by the federal leadership.

“You (people) must remember that we are embarking on Sarawak Corridor of Renewable Energy (SCORE) and a lot of money is required for this. Also, the federal leadership pledged a lot of housing projects,” he said.

Asked whether the people here were still not happy with their representation in the federal government, he said: “This is bureaucracy. I am sure we can discuss this within the family and no need to discuss in the press. This is my view.”
