Chong: Dream comes true for LDP, not Yee
Kota Kinabalu, May 13, 2009: SAPP Information Chief, Chong Pit Fah (gambar) said that the biggest winner in the jostle for the Deputy Chief Minister post slotted for the Chinese is Liberal Democratic Party (LDP) when its senior member Datuk Peter Pang got the job.
Peter also kept his post as the Youth and Sports Minister. Another senior LDP member and Merotai Assemblyman, Pang Yuk Min, got promoted as Infrastructure Development Assistant Minister.
The promotion of Peter and Yuk Min raised eyebrows when LDP had made statements that the party is not ready to take the Deputy Chief Minister's post due to lack of experiences among its Assemblymen.
"The promotions seen as an attempt by Musa to court former LDP boss and Chief Minister Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat to drop legal suit against him over the halted Goddess of the Sea statue project or Mazu statue in Kudat," SAPP Information Chief Chong Pit Fah said in a statement, here.
"We hope Peter and Yuk Min promotions, is not a compromise for the halted Kah Kiat's Mazu project in Kudat," Chong said.
He said the promotions are also seen to weather the storm surrounding the approval for another Mazu statue also in Kudat by the Hainan Federation of Sabah and Labuan as recently announced.
Chong said SAPP hoped the new Deputy Chief Minister could do his best to solve many perennial problems faced by the rakyat, in particular, the health care services after the main block of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) was declared unsafe for seven months.
He added that SAPP also hope Peter could tackle other problems like the insufficient energy supply in the State, clean water supply, illegal immigrants and many others.
He said Resource Development and Information Technology Minister Datuk Dr. Yee Moh Chai retained his post after he failed to get the Deputy Chief Minister's post even after intense lobbying.
He added that Dr. Yee's heavy lobbying was obvious over the past weeks when he comments on the present leadership's generous allocations to the Chinese schools and temples including his announcement that the Hainan Federation of Sabah and Labuan was given green light to build another Mazu statue in Kudat.
He further said that Gerakan was not given the Deputy Chief Minister's post because the Peninsular-based BN component has no influence as well as never contested in any election in the State.
