Deputy Dewan Rakyat Speaker Datuk Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, who did not brush off that possibility, said Parliament had a history of being dissolved even before the term expired.
“At present, our five years term of office will expire in April, 2013. Plus another 60 days then it will be until June…that is the definite exhaust period,” he said yesterday after handing over relief fund amounting to RM17,760 to 14 recipients from Santubong constituency.
Wan Junaidi stressed that Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak had to take all factors into consideration before making a decision on when to dissolve parliament.
He said it was also possible for Parliament to be dissolved in the midst of a Dewan Rakyat sitting.
“The question now is whether our Prime Minister is confident enough to dissolve Parliament considering the current happenings in Sarawak.”
Wan Junaidi said he believed Najib would take into consideration the fact that the Chinese community in urban Sarawak had more or less rejected the BN and opted to support the DAP as shown in the results of the recently-concluded state election.
