RM25.9b from Sabah since '95


About RM25.95 billion in revenue was collected by the Federal Government from Sabah from 1995 to June 15 this year.

Finance Minister Datuk Mohd Najib Tun Razak, said this in reply to Sepanggar MP Datuk Eric Majimbun during a question and answer session in Parliament here.

He said the system for recording the Federal Government's revenue according to State was only created and implemented since 1995.

To another question from Majimbun, the Human Resource Ministry in a written answer stated that 338 workers in Sabah were retrenched between October 2008 and June 23 this year.

It said out of this the highest was in the manufacturing sector involving 191 workers, followed by in the agriculture, hunting and forestry sector with 59 workers, community services, social and other individual activities (23); trading of wholesale and grocery, auto vehicle repair, motorcycle, private goods, household and others (20); public administration and defence, security and social (12); transportation (11); hotels and restaurants (9); financial intermediary (5); mining and quarry (4); construction (2); electrical, gas and water supplies (1); real estate, leasing and trading (1).

The Ministry said in the said period some 28,851 local workers throughout the country were permanently retrenched, while another 8,908 quit their jobs voluntarily.

Of this it said the manufacturing sector recorded the highest with 21,905 workers, involving 463 employers, followed by the construction sector with 542 workers retrenched involving 57 employers, the service sector (hotel and restaurant) with 593 workers retrenched, involving 18 employers.
