Food Poisoning : Bau Hospital full with victims

Some 50 pupils from two primary schools were referred to Bau District Hospital after they were down by food poisoning today after eating Nasi Lemak during holiday extra class.

3Apart from the children, a headmaster, three teachers, some parents and a security guard were also affected.

One of the pupils was in serious condition and admitted.

The pupils from Primary 4, 5 and 6 in a school in Sinawan and Serikin were given the food by a catering service from Kuching.

A parent said her son told her that they were given the choice of either nasi lemak or mee goreng.

The one who consumed nasi lemak were affected.

As early as 12.30 pm until 8 pm, pupils had been coming in and out.

Most were put on drips and once they were well, they were sent back home.

The headmaster was still at the hospital and were given four bags of drips already.

A parent, Sitin anak Nabin said her 11-year-old son complained of stomach ache upon returning home.

He said he had taken nasi lemak in school He then vomitted and was rushed to the hospital where he was put on drip.

A grandfather said his two grandchildren came back with the food at 9.30 am and invited their grandmother to eat with them.

Only the grandmother and the granddaughter ate the nasi lemak. Both ended up in Bau hospital.

Bau police chief, DSP Vincent Ajeng Laing confirmed that the pupils from the two schools were down with food poisoning.

He said some of them were being treated in private clinics and said there could be more than 50 affected. He said the situation was under control and one pupil was admitted.
